1) Photo

The scène takes place in a supermarket. A woman is pushing her caddy in the cereal section. She is overweight. She is choosing her favourite brand of cereals. There are many different brands on the shelves (= the shelves are full of packets of cereals.

2) The text : What kind of text is it

It's an extract from " Notes from a Big Country " in 1998. Bill bryson passed/spend 20 years in England but he was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He came back to his native country in 1997 and he wrote about the changes witch happend in the Unitted States. The USA is mutch bigger than England.

3) The title

These words are contradictory because junk food is unuhealthy contrary to heaven witch is a plaisant place.

4) The story

The narrator announced to his wife that he wanted to go to the supermarket with her. His wife usually did the shopping alone.

Why?
He didn't approve of what she bought. She usually bought healthy products like fresh fruit and vegetables. She kept buying healthy food. As a mother she tought it was her role to look after her children and to cook them proper meals. She wanted to teach them how to eat properly. She wanted to teach them the good eating habits. She was concerned in her family's health. She waas aware that it was important for her childre to eat healthy stuff. But he was bored with what she bought. He wanted to eat typical American food like cheese in aspray can. he thought the supermaket was a junk food heaven.

Part 2

We shouldn't take him seriously when he said that it was because his wife was English. His tone is funny/humorous. The real reason was that his wife was aware that the children should eat properfood.
The narrator wanted to go shopping with her because he longed for typical American food like artificial bacon bits, cheese in a shade of yellow unknow to nature, or creamy chocolate fillings. This is industrially-made food.
White his wife chose melons and mushrooms he went to the junk food section. The junk food section was mutch bigger than the fresh food section. THe narrator and his wife had totaly opposite tastes.
When he was in front of the shelves full of cereals he took many packets. He chose his favourite brands. He behaved like a spoilt child. He had a childish behavoour. HE behaved childishly. He thought it was marvellous. He felt as if he was heaven.
He grabbed different types of cereals and sprinted back to the caddy.

Part 3

His wife was furious with him. She didn't want him to eat breakfast pizza. She spoke threateningly. She wanted him to put back the breakfast pizza on the shelf.
All these expressions show that his wife disapproved of what he had choser. All these expressions show his wifes's disapproval. She thought that the breakfast pizza was tho last straw.
She agreed to all the rest provided that he ate it all.
